Puerta del río Alberche

La Puerta del Río Alberche era uno de los accesos principales a la villa de Escalona. Permitía la entrada y salida de viajeros que se desplazaban entre Toledo y Ávila, siendo un punto clave para el tránsito de mercaderes y peregrinos. Señalar que de esta puerta solo queda actualmente la abertura y los restos de un escudo a la derecha.

El Puente sobre el Río Alberche

Hasta el siglo XIX, el río era atravesado por un largo puente de madera. A finales de ese siglo, se construyó el actual puente de piedra, de gran belleza arquitectónica, con elegantes arcos de medio punto que ofrecen una estampa característica de la villa.

Estructura Urbana Inspirada en los Castros Romanos

La organización de las calles de Escalona sigue un diseño planificado similar al de los antiguos castros romanos. Las calles de San Miguel y del Río forman un eje central que divide la villa en dos partes simétricas, facilitando el tránsito entre las dos puertas principales: la Puerta del Río Alberche y la Puerta del recinto superior,conocida como puerta de San Miguel o Arco de las Campanas

El Mirador Actual

En el emplazamiento de la antigua puerta se encuentra hoy un mirador desde el que se puede contemplar una magnífica vista del río Alberche, su fértil vega y parte del alfoz de Escalona. Este espacio es uno de los rincones más bellos y emblemáticos delmunicipio.

Today, in the place where this door was, there is a viewpoint with an incredible view of the Alberche River, its meadow, and much of the historic district of Escalona.

MORE INFORMATION:

Alberche River Gate was one of the main entrances to Escalona´s townt. It allowed entry and exit for travelers between Toledo and Ávila, it was a key transit point for merchants and pilgrims. Currently there is only the opening and the remains of a shield on the right.

The Bridge over the Alberche River

Until the 19th century, the river was crossed by a long wooden bridge. At the end of that century, the current stone bridge was built, great architectural beauty bridge with elegant semicircular arches which offer a characteristic image of the town

Urban Structure Inspired by Roman Forts

The organization of Escalona's streets has a planned design similar to old roman forts. San Miguel and River streets form a central axis that divides the town into two symmetrical sections, facilitating transit between the two main gates: the Alberche River Gate and the Upper Enclosure Gate, known as San Miguel Gate or Bells Arch.

Current Pointview

In the space of the old door there is now a pointview which you can enjoy an incredible view of Alberche River, its meadow and part of the town. This space is one of the most beautiful and emblematic corners of the municipality.
